EHII with its extensive experience, has set the Indian public health sector on the reform path, laying the foundations of the National Rural Health Mission. EHI International understands that emerging multidimensional public health challenges require comprehensive response based on evidence and targeted at the causal factors and other determinants, providing health authorities, managers and practitioners with updated/upgraded/adapted systems to promote effective and efficient management and delivery of public health services.

Our Projects
The best example of large-scale programme management in partnership with central and multiple state governments was the European Commission supported National Health and Family Welfare Sector Support Programme (1998-2005) with grant of €240 million. The overall objective of this programme was to develop and improve national and state level mechanisms of implementation of Reproductive and Child Health Programme in India. These funds were released to the Government of India (GoI) in tranches based on achievement of pre-agreed benchmarks and indicators using Performance Based Funding approach for the first time in the country. Areas of technical assistance provided by EHI International to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and State Health Departments were – Policy Reviews and development, public health systems reviews and need based systems development, capacity development in all aspects of providing public health services in the nation, health financing, quality management of health services, decentralisation and bottom-up planning and management of public health services, innovative procurement management systems, reinvigorated social behaviour change communication strategies, establishment of a cadre of village level health volunteers, strengthened financial management, donor coordination and unified response.
